Tristania is a gothic metal band from Stavanger, Norway that has played together for 8 years now. The present line-up came together at the end of 1996 and in May 1997, Tristania recorded their self-financed demo that won them a deal with Napalm Records that same summer. The band’s latest release is entitled "World of Glass" and was recorded at Soundsuite Studio. This latest release ranks among Tristania’s best. It explores different moods and musical landscapes, both brutal and melodic.
It is very important for the band to bring varying elements to their music. This musical plurality is shown on both their previous full-length albums: ''Widow's Weeds" (1997) and "Beyond the Veil" (1999). However, their diversity is probably best shown by their latest release, "World of Glass". On this album elements of gothic metal and rock, black- and death-metal, industrial, classic any many others genres are too be found. For this reason, Tristania shies away from being placed into a particular category. They simply don't like to limit their musical creativity.

Tristania has with their previous albums managed to create their own sound. It is extremely important for the band to make each album special and different from the previous ones, while keeping the special "tristanian" sound. Choir, synthesizers, heavy guitars, violins, and several different vocal styles are all elements that Tristania brings into their music.
Vibeke Stene's female vocals are important to Tristania's sound, but the band also uses several additional singers to obtain a varied result. After the release of “Beyond the Veil”, the band and singer Morten Veland decided to go separate ways. As such, Ronny Thorsten (Trail of Tears) laid down the extreme vocal tracks on “World of Glass”. The band has also used two other male singers, 0sten Bergoy and Jan Kenneth Barkved, to sing the clean vocal parts. Another additional musician contributing on “World of Glass” is violin player Pete Johansen (The Scarr).

Tristania has toured repeatedly throughout Europe, both as headliner and support act for bands like Tiamat and Anathema, and has performed at international music festivals in Europe, the US, and Mexico. Tristania will headline a European tour beginning in September 2001 and supported by Rotting Christ, Vintersorg, and Madder Mortem.
