ALESTORM Style: Scottish Pirate Metal, Country: Scotland

Avast, ye landlubbers! From the deepest darkest depths of eastern Scotland comes Alestorm, a drunken band of three mad Scots and one Irishman on an epic quest to slay posers, drink beer, and be the greatest damn band that ever did sail the seven seas! Describing their style as “True Scottish Pirate Metal”, Alestorm plays an infectious blend of folk and power metal in the vein of bands such as Turisas and Korpiklaani, but with a unique piratical twist. Alestorm are coming to kick ass and chew gum. And they're all out of gum.alestorm 01

ALESTORM formed in 2006 and after gaining a cult following in their local scene, they quickly inked a record deal with Austria's Napalm Records. After a few lineup changes early on, the band eventually settled on their current swashbuckling crew comprising Christopher Bowes, Gareth Murdock, Dani Evans, and Ian Wilson. Drawing on wide stylistic influences, such as Bal-Sagoth and Turisas to name but a few, ALESTORM released their debut album “Captain Morgan’s Revenge” in 2008 to great critical acclaim. Now, after cementing their reputation as a kick-ass live band at all the biggest metal festivals in the world, ALESTORM returns in 2009 with their second album, “Black Sails at Midnight”. "Black Sails at Midnight" offers a treasure chest of sweeping Scottish Pirate Metal worthy of any loot-loving corsair. Irresistible growling choruses from the port side and lively keyboard melodies and heavy metal riffs from the starboard side form the basis of this highly explosive rum-induced metal mix. The catchy tales of life on the high seas, including "Keelhauled" or "The Quest", use authentic instruments (violin, horns) to give these maritime jewels their final polish. Producer Lasse Lamert (LSD Studio) has given "Black Sails at Midnight" a unique and powerful sound, which earned him many a wench and much wealth from Captain Morgan's personal stash, while James Murphy, known for his outstanding work with Death and Obituary, took over the mastering responsibilities. The album's limited edition includes a live bonus DVD featuring the buccaneer's entire 2008 Wacken performance. Alestorm have hoisted the black sails...Let the raids begin!
