Stemming from Finland's impressive music scene, MEHIDA emerged following
keyboardist Mikko Harkin's struggle to establish his new musical vision.
After
leaving his previous band Wingdom, Harkin (ex-Kotipelto, ex-Sonata
Arctica) joined forces with long-time friend and
drummer Markus Niemispelt and bassist Jarno Raitio,
who had played together with Harkin since 1995.
“We were looking for a heavier sound and were
convinced Jani Stefanovic (Sins of
Omission, Divinefire, ex-Am I Blood) was the
guitar player we needed.” Jani, who had
made a name for himself in the Death Metal
scene and previously worked with Harkin,
gave MEHIDA's sound the complimentary contrast
it needed.
“We also needed a singer who had the ability to
express the wide scale of emotional and
musical elements inherent in our music.”
Through Jani, the band recruited the vocal
talents of Thomas Vikstrm (Therion, ex-
Candlemass). "Thomas truly understood from
the get-go what we were trying to express in
our songs."
MEHIDA's music focuses on emphasizing the
musical extremes: from complex rhythmic
sequences to unexpected modern melody lines,
while always managing to
remain accessible, catchy, and easy to listen
to.
The album "Blood & Water" is a reflection of
the vast creativity of all MEHIDA band members.
A wide style spans the
spectrum between technical metal and dark
beautiful ballads. Raging guitars and the
strong vocal expression of Thomas Vikstrm adds
a converging force between
ambient synthesizer arrangements and precise
rhythmic outbursts.
